Sorrento is a delicious town wonderfully located over white steep cliffs and offers a fantastic view over the Bay of Naples Sorrento lies on a Tufa terrace and is enclosed by impressive rocks of the limestone mountains. For 2000 years already visitors from all over the world have been attracted to Sorrento by breathtaking sunsets and fragrances of orange and lemon gardens. The town does suffer irregular building projects, but even this has not greatly overshadowed its rustic sea side town appeal. The name of the town has its origins in antiquity and derives from a Greek word meaning "Flowing" due to the form of the town which appears to flow over the limestone tuff on which the town stands, defining the edge of the cliffs.
